According to Poidata, China has over 45,000 research institutes, while Nigeria has just over 600. Across Africa, the number is under 3,000 - despite having a population similar to China. Many existing labs also lack standard research infrastructure, and the gap is even wider in space science. As a result, many young African graduates have limited access to research training.
To help address this, BrianSpace created the BrianSpace Research Experience Program (B-REP) - a mentorship and training initiative for undergraduates and recent graduates, especially first-generation learners and students from underserved regions (Africa, South America, and Asia). B-REP teaches foundational research skills and supports participants in producing publishable work in space weather and Sun–Earth interaction, with plans to expand into broader space science and engineering fields. Because much of space science uses open data and reproducible code, impactful research can be done from anywhere.
Led by Dr. Amadi Brians Chinonso, a recipient of multiple international scholarships and fellowships, participants work as research associates to learn, analyze data, write, and publish together.

The BrianSpace CV Review and Mentorship Program (B-CREP) and Proposal Review Program (B-PREP) are designed to help first-generation students and applicants from underserved regions (Africa, South America, and Asia) strengthen their academic CVs and proposals for scholarships, fellowships, and graduate school opportunities, especially in science and engineering fields, and more especially, space science or engineering. Each submitted CV will be reviewed personally by Dr. Amadi Brians Chinonso; a recipient of three international scholarships and three fellowships in Brazil and the United States. Priority will be given to applicants in science and engineering disciplines. Please fill out the form carefully and upload your CV and/or proposal in PDF or DOCX format. Over 30 applicants have were mentored via this program in 2025. The next cohort (B-CREP 2 and B-PREP 2) will be held between August and October 2026.
The BrianSpace Studio functions as the dedicated digital platform supporting the online component of our outreach initiative. Through this platform, we will deliver detailed and engaging discussions on a broad range of space-related topics, spanning the structure and dynamics of the atmosphere, the behavior of the ionosphere, solar and heliospheric phenomena, and their interactions with Earth’s space environment. In addition to educational explanations, the Studio will feature demonstrations, visualizations, interviews, and short analytical segments designed to make complex scientific concepts accessible to learners at all levels. Our YouTube channel will serve as the primary medium for disseminating these materials, allowing us to reach a wider audience and provide easily accessible, on-demand learning resources. Through this effort, we aim to cultivate curiosity, strengthen foundational understanding, and inspire participation in the broader fields of space science, engineering, and research. It will kick off in mid-2026.
BrianSpace Mobile serves as a strategic outreach platform targeting universities where space science and engineering programs are absent. Currently, less than ten percent of Nigerian universities offer space-related courses, leaving a large population of undergraduates unaware of this discipline. Through this program, we seek to address that gap by providing information, education, and guidance on academic and career pathways in space science and technology, along with the numerous opportunities the field presents. Watch out, we may be at your school soon. BrianSpace Mobile was at the 500-capacity SIAS Auditorium, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri. Nigeria on the 27th August, 2025. Your school is next.
The BRIANSPACE Summer Camp is a yearly program designed for students ages 14–18 who aspire to careers in space science, aerospace engineering, astrophysics, astronautics, spacecraft systems, or the global space industry. Whether your child dreams of working at NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, ESA, NARSDA, Arianespace, or any leading space agency or company, this camp provides the foundation, direction, and mentorship they need to begin their journey. The program introduces students to the space environment, space systems, and space data visualization using Python - all in a fun, simplified, age-friendly format.
I’m incredibly grateful for the detailed review of my CV through the mentorship program. The insights your team provided were invaluable and made a significant difference in improving its quality.
After this program, my confidence improved significantly. I realized there were several areas in my CV that I had not been presenting well before the review and mentorship program.
